Man+Van
Local London · billed by the hour

Man and van London. Flats, single items, short runs.

A long-wheelbase van, one man or a two-man crew, and every London postcode. You pay for the time the job takes, and we tell you up front what makes that time longer or shorter.

Phones answered Mon–Sat, 8am–7pm. Free to call.

Where the van parks decides most of the job

Small, local, and done properly.

Plenty of our work never leaves London. These are the jobs we do week in, week out, from our yard on the eastern edge of the city.

  • Flat moves

Studio, one-bed or a two-bed flat-share ending. We wrap the furniture, take the bed apart, carry it down and put it back together at the new place.

  • Single items

One sofa, one wardrobe, one fridge-freezer. You do not need a full move to book the van. One item is a proper job and we treat it like one.

  • Marketplace pickups

Bought something second-hand across town? We collect it from the seller, check it matches the listing photos, and bring it to your door.

  • Student moves

Halls to a shared house, or a term of belongings back to a family home. Boxes, a desk, a bike and a mini-fridge fit with room to spare.

  • Office bits

Desks, chairs, filing cabinets and a few boxes of files for a small office or a shop moving along the street. Not a full commercial relocation.

  • Not sure it counts?

If it fits in a van and it is not going to the tip, ask. The answer is usually yes.

You pay for time. So we cut the wasted time.

A local move is billed by the hour because no two London jobs take the same time, even when the furniture is identical. A two-bed flat in a Bow tower block with a booked lift is a different job from the same two-bed on the top floor of a Stoke Newington terrace with nowhere to park. A fixed size-based price would overcharge one of those households and undercharge the other.

What we do instead is ask the questions that decide the time before we turn up. Your written quote sets out how the time is counted, what is included, and the crew size we recommend. We do not publish rates on the site, because a number without your stairs and your street attached to it is not worth much.

Five things. Tell us about them and the quote holds.

  1. Time on the job

Local work is billed by the hour, so the biggest thing is how long the job actually takes. A ready, boxed-up flat moves faster than one still being packed when we arrive.

  2. Stairs and lifts

A fourth-floor walk-up takes longer than a ground-floor flat. A working lift you have booked helps. A lift that is out of order on the day does not.

  3. Parking and loading

If we can park outside, the job is quicker. If the nearest legal spot is round the corner, every trip is longer. Tell us about loading bays, permits and building rules.

  4. Where in London

The van meets London’s emissions rules, so that is not a charge you carry. Jobs inside the central congestion charge area do carry that charge, and the quote says so up front.

  5. One man or two

One man handles boxes and items one person can safely lift with help from you. Heavy or awkward pieces, or a whole flat, need a two-man crew.

Every London borough, worked from the east.

The yard is at 16 Linnet Way, Purfleet-on-Thames RM19 1TN, just off the M25 by the Dartford Crossing. That puts east London on our doorstep and the rest of the city a straight run along the A13 or round the orbital. These are the boroughs we work in most. If yours is not listed, we still cover it.

Central

  • City of London
  • Westminster
  • Kensington and Chelsea
  • Camden

Tight streets, loading restrictions and porters at most mansion blocks. We ask about access first.

North

  • Islington
  • Haringey
  • Barnet
  • Enfield
  • Brent

Victorian conversions with narrow stairs, and plenty of controlled parking streets.

East

  • Hackney
  • Tower Hamlets
  • Newham
  • Waltham Forest
  • Redbridge
  • Barking and Dagenham
  • Havering

Closest to the yard. New-build towers with lift bookings next to old terraces with none.

South

  • Southwark
  • Lambeth
  • Lewisham
  • Greenwich
  • Bexley
  • Bromley
  • Croydon

Over the river from the yard by the Dartford Crossing or the Blackwall Tunnel, whichever is moving.

West

  • Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Wandsworth
  • Ealing
  • Hounslow
  • Richmond upon Thames

The far side of town from us, so we plan the route before we leave the yard rather than on the way.

Thurrock and Essex, next to the yard

Purfleet-on-Thames, Grays, West Thurrock, Tilbury, Aveley, South Ockendon. The van is round the corner before the job starts.

Ring us, tell us what is going and where, and we will estimate the time on the call and confirm it in writing.

Local moves, answered.

  • Local London moves are billed by the hour, not by a fixed menu of sizes. The price depends on how long the job takes, and that comes down to a few things you can tell us in advance: how much there is, how many flights of stairs at each end, whether there is a lift, where the van can park, and whether you need one man or a two-man crew. Send us a list of what is going, or a few photos of it all together, and we come back with a written quote that explains how the time is counted and what is included. We do not publish rates, because two moves of the same size can take very different amounts of time once stairs and parking come in.
